<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>In Maryland, a marina is defined by COMAR 08.04.06.01 as "a facility for the mooring, docking, or storing of more than ten vessels on tidal navigable waters including a commercial, noncommercial, or community facility." The Maryland Department of the Environment restricts shellfish harvest in waters adjacent to marina facilities between May 1st and September 30th. Restrictions are based on the number of slips the marina has as follows: Marinas with10-50 slips require a100 foot buffer, marinas with 51-100 slips require a150 foot buffer, and marinas with greater than 100 slips require a 200 foot buffer. These restricted areas are established as part of Maryland's participation in the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. Under this program, these areas, while not necessarily containing polluted water or shellstock, are restricted as a precautionary measure to assure that only safe, marketable shellstock will be harvested.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

The document "Marinas of Anne Arundel County 2010", prepared by Anne Arundel County Department of Planning was consulted for Anne Arundel County to ensure all AA county marinas were digitized.
The shapefile "MDMarinas2012" was used to populate field "Marina_Nam". (origin believed to be Md DNR)
Due to a lack of adequate parcel data for parts of Anne Arundel County, some marinas may actually be several marinas digitized as one.
Rules used during digitization were as follows:
Polygon features were drawn around marina facilities to include most seaward pylons associated with facility. Polygons where drawn to match parcel boundaries unless a considerable amount of the parcel's shoreline was undisturbed, in which case the marina
was drawn to only include docks. The buffers generated for some marinas were edited to exclude natural areas of the parcel's shoreline.
A series of rules were employed when digitizing marina boundaries in this layer. For a desciption of the rules employed, please refer to Resource Details, supplemental information.
